Ebad rules out governor’s rule in Sindh


SUKKUR, March 01 : Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad said that there were no chances of governor’s rule in the province and termed it a negative propaganda, unleashed since two years.


"The government is working properly," he told newsmen during his visit to the Sukkur Barrage. He advised the opposition to play its role for strengthening the democracy in the country.


Expressing his satisfaction over the working of the Sindh Assembly, he said that some legislative work had been done in the House and now it was the responsibility of opposition to extend cooperation to the government so that the long-standing problems of the people could be resolved at their doorsteps.


Replying to a question, the governor said that relations between Pakistan and India had improved and added that when a train service from Khokhrapar and bus service in Kashmir could be started, then it would also be possible to start ferry service from Karachi to Mumbai.


Ebad, expressed his satisfaction over the rehabilitation work of the Sukkur Barrage and lauded the performance of the FWO. "The work is being carried out ahead of schedule due to which a huge amount had been saved," he added.


He said that people of Sindh were grateful to President Musharraf for taking keen interest in the rehabilitation of the Sukkur Barrage. Replying to another question regarding raising 5th gate in the Dadu Canal, the governor said that it was a technical matter and if experts felt, then the work would be started. However, he said that this issue had not been discussed as yet.


Earlier, briefing the governor regarding the rehabilitation work of the barrage, Brig Jawed Bajwa of the FWO said that the right pocket of the barrage had been cleaned completely, while two cofferdams had been constructed to stop the water. He also said that 350 FWO personnel and more than 500 local labourers were engaged in the work, while 30 engineers were also working on the project.


Provincial advisir for information Salahuddin Haider, Provincial adviser Nusrat Aziz, Sindh Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, AIGP Sukkur Saleem Tariq Lone and other high officials were present on the occasion.


The governor also visited the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Sukkur, and went round its various departments. On the occasion, IBA Director Nisar Siddiqui apprised him of the problems being faced by the institute. The governor assured that financial problems of the institute would be resolved. He also announced increasing the Sindh government funded scholarships for deserving students of IBA Sukkur from 14 to 25.


Earlier, Asif Ghouri, Patron-in-Chief, and President Haji Haroon Memon of the Sukkur Small Traders met Dr Ishratul Ebad at the Circuit House and discussed problems of Sukkur.
