Lawyers of SBC tortured in struggle for supremacy of law: CJ
SAHIWAL:
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has declared that supremacy
of law is inevitable in the country, saying lawyers belonging to the
Sahiwal Bar Council have been tortured.
Addressing a function of Sahiwal Bar Council (SBC) here,
he said that judiciary, legislative assembly and administration will
have to work with their respective jurisdiction and avoid interference
in one another's designated limits.
He said justice can be delayed but cannot be denied,
adding "the SBC has supported the struggle for the supremacy
of judiciary with more sacrifices than any other bar council in Pakistan".
He said that justice will be provided to the lawyers, who were tortured
during the struggle. He thanked the citizens of Sahiwal for welcoming
him so warmly.
On this occasion, prime lawyer of CJ Iftikhar, Barrister
Aitzaaz Ahsan said the purpose of lawyers movement is to restore Iftikhar
Chaudhry as the Chief Justice of Pakistan. He praised the political
parties for their role in the movement.
Ali Ahmed Kurd, addressing the participants, said the
lawyers' movemnt has entered into a defining moment. Senator Sardar
Lateef Khan Khosa said the PPP along with other opposition parties
will resign from the assemlies if Gen. Pervez Musharraf is re-elected.
Earlier, the convoy of Chief Justice Iftikhar
Muhammad Chaudhry upon arriving at Sahiwal was welcomed with rose
petals.
