President Musharraf, Punjab CM discuss national,
political affairs
LAHORE:
President General Pervez Musharraf had a one-on-one meeting with Punjab
Chief Minister Ch. Pervaiz Elahi at the Army Guest House here Saturday.
Ongoing development projects in Punjab as well as national
and political affairs came under discussion during the meeting.The
Chief Minister apprised President General Pervez Musharraf of the
pace of work on mega projects and other development schemes in the
province as well as details of the provincial budget.
The President directed the Chief Minister that public
welfare projects in education, health, agriculture, industries and
other sectors be completed as early as possible so that people could
fully benefit from the fruits of development.
The President further said that completion of development
projects will result in poverty alleviation as well as generation
of job opportunities.
He said that assembly members, Nazims and Muslim League
office-bearers should make collective efforts for the implementation
of development projects initiated by the government as well as organization
and strengthening of the party for the forthcoming general elections.
President Musharraf appreciated allocation of 12 percent
more funds for southern Punjab than the ratio of population of the
region and said that it will help remove sense of deprivation of the
people of backward areas.
He said that availability of additional funds is resulting
in provision of equal opportunities of development for the people
of Southern Punjab.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said that due to economic policies
of President General Pervez Musharraf record funds have been made
available to the provinces as a result of which pace of development
has accelerated and public-welfare projects are being completed expeditiously.
He said that sagacious policies of President General
Pervez Musharraf are yielding positive results and the country has
entered into a new era of progress and prosperity.
