Irked Punjab policemen stage violent protests
in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD:
A constable of the Punjab police contingent called for special duty
in the capital city here passed away after a brief illness, which
infuriated his fellow policemen, who burst out into an instantaneous
protest and blocked the Aabpara Chowk and ransacked the market over
there.
A constable Imam Bakhsh of the Punjab Reserve Police
contingent residing at the CDA Flats of sector G-6/1 falling sick
died last night. His fellow policemen told that the arrangements in
the flats were highly unsatisfactory—the deceased constable
had fallen sick, but the SP didn’t grant him leave to go home
and later he succumbed to his illness in the night in utter negligence.
Following the incident, the fellow policemen went berserk
blocked the traffic at the Aabpara Chowk, staged vehement protest
demonstrations and ransacked the Aabpara market. The protesting policemen
also thrashed some senior police officers, who had rushed to pacify
the protesters at the scene.
Punjab Inspector General of Police and Islamabad
Inspector General of Police have separately announced a sum of Rs500000
each for the payment as compensations to the deceased Imam Bakhsh
policeman besides announcing 5 days leave for the Punjab Constabulary
policemen residing in Aabpara Quarters.
