Pak army endorces Govt's strategy to counter militancy

ISLAMABAD: The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee has reiterated its full support to the three-pronged strategy devised by the government to counter militancy in the tribal region. A joint meeting chaired by Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, General Tariq Majid was held at Joint Staff Headquarters. The meeting reviewed the evolving security environment, external and internal security issues, border security and regional security situation. Important regional developments impacting national security were discussed, including a comprehensive review of external threats. The committee was briefed on the progress of development plan of the Armed Forces. The meeting expressed its satisfaction on the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces. Other important matters having tri-service implications also came under discussion. Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Naval Chief Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed, Kamran Rasool, Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Shahid Tirmizi, Secretary Defence Production and other senior armed forces officers attended the meeting.
