Contacts with Musharraf not for power sharing,
says Benazir
LONDON:
Chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party and former Prime Minister Benazir
Bhutto has said her party’s contact with President Pervez Musharraf
is not for power sharing deal but to ensure free and fair elections.
Asked in an interview with Canadian daily The Globe
and Mail, if she had struck a deal with the military leader, Bhutto
said: "Not yet, no. There have been contacts and our contacts
were over the holding of fair elections and a return to a political
system in Pakistan.
About her return to Pakistan, Benazir said that she
could return to Pakistan as early as September and her return would
not be a result of any deal with Musharraf. Reinstatement of the chief
justice has re-established her confidence over judiciary.
Bhutto said that if she would assume the power, she
would not tolerate madrissahs harboring terrorism.
Musharraf needs extremists support to remain in
power while she is looking for support of masses, she added.
