Balochistan flood onrush enters Manchar Lake

SUKKUR: The flood wave coming from Balochistan has started entering Manchar Lake, while the irrigation department is releasing the excess water from the Lake to the Indus and, meanwhile, the federal government will begin today distributing Rs30 million among the flood affected people of Balochistan.

Right Bank Sukkur Barrage chief engineer, Ata mohammad Somroo told Geo News that the onrush of water from Qambar, Shahdadkot and Balochistan has started entering Manchar Lake en-route RBOD. He said that the water level in RBOD has swelled up beyond 6,000 cusecs, which was causing breaches.

Manchar Lake’s XEN, Mohammad Alam told Geo News that the irrigation department was releasing 4,500 cusecs of water from Manchar Lake into the Indus for thwarting any adverse impact of the onrush of flood water.

On the other hand, the last night breach in Union Council Kamal Khan of Tehsil Johi has widened up to 200 feet. The MPA from Johi, Sajila Laghari told Geo News that at least 10 villages have submerged under water due to the breach and the relief work over there was being started. The two Tehsils of district Dadu, Mehar and Khairpur Nathanshah’s most of the villages land communications still remained cut off from the towns and other villages. The affected people complained not getting any relief despite passage of several days.

On the other hand, Balochistan Interior Secretary, Tariq Ayub told that a sum of Rs30 million provided by the federal government would be distributed among the affected people of the province from today. He told that 176 people died by the rains and floods in the province, while 195 were still missing.
