Youth must address misperception of Pakistani society: Musharraf
ISLAMABAD: It is important that the youth of Pakistan come forward
and remove the world community’s misperception about Pakistan
being an intolerant society, said President General Pervez Musharraf
on Wednesday. Addressing the third National Special Scouts Agoonoree,
Musharraf praised the scouts for volunteering to help in the relief
and recovery of the earthquake survivors and said the youth, especially
the scouts, had the responsibility of promoting Pakistan’s image
as a moderate and progressive country. He urged the youth to play
their role in eliminating extremism from Pakistani society and said
that extremism could hinder Pakistan’s development and hinder
foreign investment in the country. The president urged the scouts
to take the message of tolerance and peace to people across the country.
Musharraf urged young people to inculcate strong intellectual, physical,
moral and social values for nation-building and display strong character
while being proud Pakistanis. He said their strength of character
would help Pakistan get a respectable stature in the world community.
Referring to the government’s measures for the welfare of special
people, Musharraf said that special people could appear in the Central
Superior Services examinations and added that the examination system
for matriculation would be modified to facilitate them. He said the
government had finalised a national policy for special people to make
them an equally productive part of society. The Pakistan Scouts Association
presented Rs 2.5 million to Musharraf for the rehabilitation of the
earthquake-affected people. online
