Filling of nomination papers in second phase L.G. Polls in 56 district
begins today
ISLAMABAD, July 24 : The filing of nomination papers
for the Second Phase of Local Government elections in fifty-six districts
of the country begins today (Monday) and will continue upto Wednesday.
A large number of candidates have already obtained the
nomination papers to contest the elections.
Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on 30th
and 31st of this month. Candidates can withdraw nomination papers
on the 4th of next month while the final list of the candidates will
be published on the 5th of next month.
In the Second Phase elections will be held in eighteen
districts of Punjab province including Rawalpindi city district, Attock,
Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Faisalabad city district, Jhang,
Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Lahore
city district, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Kasur and Okara.
In Sindh election will be conducted in twelve districts
which are Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Dadu, Matiari, Jamshoro,
Badin, Sukkur, Khairpur, Nawabshah, Larkana, Kambar Shahdadkot and
Shikarpur.
In NWFP, the elections will be held in twelve districts
including Hangu, Laki Marwat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Batgram, Kohistan,
Swat, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Chitral and the Protected Areas
of Malakand.
In Balochistan, the elections will be held in fourteen
districts which are Kalat, Washak, Lasbella, Jhal Magsi, Quetta city
district, Dera Bugti, Qila Abdullah, Chaghi, Kohlu, Loralai, Zhob,
Musakhel, Ketch and Panjgur.
The polling for the second phase of the local government
elections will be held on 25th of next month.
Meanwhile, the process of scrutiny of the nomination
papers filed for the first phase of the local government elections
for Union Councils seats in fifty-four districts of the country was
completed on Sunday.
The candidates can withdraw their candidature on Thursday
and the final list of the candidates will be published on Friday next.The
polling for the first phase of elections will be held on 18th of next
month.
The Sindh Government has notified the allocation of
additional seats for Minorities in various Union Councils of twelve
districts of the province where population of minorities is in excess
of ten percent of the total population.
