Second group of child jockeys from Abu Dhabi arriving
LAHORE July 07 : The second group of child jockeys is
arriving here from Abu Dahbi by PIA flight No.PK 256 early on Thursday.
According to latest information received form Pakistan
Mission, Abu Dahbi, this batch would consist of 95 children and 15
adults. Child jockeys are being retrieved in a joint effort of UAE
Government, UNICEF, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Pakistanis
foundation. It may be recalled that the first batch consisting of
22 child jockeys arrived at Lahore on 21-06-2005.
They were received by Minister of State for Overseas
Pakistanis, Senator Tariq Azeem, MD, OPF Khalid Latif UNICEF Representative
Pakistan Omar Abidi. Later they were handed over to “Child Protection
and Welfare Bureau” of government of Punjab for rehabilitation.
Parents of ten Children were traced and their children were handed
over to them.
The coming child jockeys shall be rehabilitated in the
Bureau till their parents are not traced. Pakistan Mission Abu Dhabi
shall keep sending child jockeys as soon as their documents are prepared
and cleared for repatriation. There are about 400 more such children
in the two contres of UNICEF, UAE.
