HIV/AIDS centre inaugurated
HYDERABAD, Jan28: A centre to create public awareness
about HIV/AIDS has been inaugurated in the Liaquat University Hospital
(LUH) Hyderabad.
The centre named "Better Tomorrow", the first
project out of 16 to be established across the country, is a joint
venture of the federal Health Ministry and Marie Stopes Society.
Medical superintendent Dr Khalid Qureshi inaugurated
the centre, which would be run under the auspices of the Sindh Health
and Education Development Society (SHEDS).
Speaking on the occasion Dr Khalid Qureshi said the
centre would create awareness about HIV/AIDS and would disseminate
information and guidelines to the citizens to prevent the diseases.
He said this centre would also have testing facility.
Representative of National Aids Control Programme (NACP) Dr Huma Qureshi
said the HIV/Aids were rapidly spreading at an alarming level.
The country manager of the project, Dr Abdul Khaliq
Ghori, said according to unofficial statistics there are 2,200 AIDS
patients in the Sindh province, while the countrywide figure is almost
80,000.
