Pakistan pays tributes to Indian Security Advisor
ISLAMABAD, Jan 03 : Pakistan paid tributes to the Indian National
Security Advisor and former Foreign Secretary Jyotindra Nath Dixit,
who died in New Delhi on Monday after a massive heart attack.
“The government of Pakistan conveys its deep condolences to
the government of India over the passing away of National Security
Adviser J. N. Dixit,” said Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Jyotindra Nath Dixit,68, was appointed National Security Advisor in
May last year, succeeding Brajesh Mishra.
“We want to especially condole with Mr. Dixit's family,”
the spokesman said in a statement.
“Mr. Dixit was a known and respected Indian professional, who
in his capacity as high commissioner to Pakistan and Indian foreign
secretary, had interacted extensively with Pakistan's diplomats,”
he said.
Mr. Dixit had a profound understanding of South Asia. In recent months,
he was engaged in the efforts to promote composite dialogue between
Pakistan and India, the Pakistani spokesman said.
He was the first Indian High Commissioner to Afghanistan
and had also served as High Commissioner in Islamabad, considered
an important posting and a stepping stone to becoming the Foreign
Secretary.
He was the High Commissioner in Colombo in 1987 when
India signed an accord with the LTTE and sent the Indian Peace Keeping
Force to the Tamil area in the island nation at the height of ethnic
crisis.
