Pakistan pays tributes to Indian Security Advisor

ISLAMABAD, Jan 03 : Pakistan paid tributes to the Indian National Security Advisor and former Foreign Secretary Jyotindra Nath Dixit, who died in New Delhi on Monday after a massive heart attack.

“The government of Pakistan conveys its deep condolences to the government of India over the passing away of National Security Adviser J. N. Dixit,” said Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Jyotindra Nath Dixit,68, was appointed National Security Advisor in May last year, succeeding Brajesh Mishra.

“We want to especially condole with Mr. Dixit's family,” the spokesman said in a statement.

“Mr. Dixit was a known and respected Indian professional, who in his capacity as high commissioner to Pakistan and Indian foreign secretary, had interacted extensively with Pakistan's diplomats,” he said.

Mr. Dixit had a profound understanding of South Asia. In recent months, he was engaged in the efforts to promote composite dialogue between Pakistan and India, the Pakistani spokesman said.

He was the first Indian High Commissioner to Afghanistan and had also served as High Commissioner in Islamabad, considered an important posting and a stepping stone to becoming the Foreign Secretary.

He was the High Commissioner in Colombo in 1987 when India signed an accord with the LTTE and sent the Indian Peace Keeping Force to the Tamil area in the island nation at the height of ethnic crisis.
