President Musharraf outlines vision for Pakistan's space Program
KARACHI, Feb 04 : President General Pervez Musharraf
has said that as an established and recognized nuclear and missile power,
Pakistan graduation to a power in space technology must be the next
logical frontier in taking Pakistan forward in the comity of mankind
and Pakistan will carve out a niche for itself in the peaceful exploitation
of space for the benefit of its people.
The president was speaking to the scientists and engineers of Pakistan
space agency SUPARCO during a visit to its plant near Karachi yesterday.
The president said that Pakistan need to make up lost time and neglect
of the past. His government had put the space program up front and on
a fast track by taking a number of initiatives like revilitization,
restructuring, reorientation and modernization of SUPARCO.
He further said that bringing SUPARCO at par with other strategic organizations,
investment in human resource development, assigning of clear vision
to be achieved in the areas of communication satellite, remote sensing
satellite, satellite launching vehicles, with the objective of bringing
rapid growth and socio-economic development in the field of mass education,
information technology, agriculture, mineral development, atmospheric
science environment and pollution monitoring.
"It is incumbent on SUPARCO that with all the financial and administrative
backing of the government, it must deliver of the objective of the space
vision," president continued said that he was confidence that Pakistan
would in the near future emerge strongly on the space map of the world
and would be able to drive the benefits for its people.
Earlier, on arrival, the chairman SUPARCO Major General (Ret) Raza Hussain
gave the president a briefing. He visited to the various laboratories
and facilities and appreciated the vigor, dedication and motivation
of the young engineers working on the deferent the objects.
