UK defence chief praises Pakistan’s role

LONDON: United Kingdom Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup appreciated Pakistan’s role in the war on terror on Tuesday, and said that the Mumbai attacks must not be allowed to divert attention from the real danger facing the international community. He was speaking at the Royal United Services Institute. He used the opportunity to review military operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan was facing a hugely complex situation. He said that the country would have its good and bad days, adding that close observers were of the opinion that Pakistan had finally started its journey down a promising track. Calling for sustained action against terrorism, he said that the events in Mumbai could result in a setback for efforts against terrorism. app
