Rs 15956m compensation paid among quake affectees: ISPR
RAWALPINDI Dec 23 : A compensation of rupees 15956 million
has so far been paid in earthquake hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP
to as many as 24516 seriously injured persons, 431916 owners of damaged
houses and 46219 next of kins, ISPR said on Friday.
Statistics compiled by ISPR reveals that rupees 8652
million have been paid in Azad Kashmir and 7303 million were paid
to affected people in NWFP.
Despite severe cold weather in the mountainous terrain
the Army troops are round the clock busy in providing relief to the
affected people. Army doctors and paramedics are busy in treating
the sick and wounded while Army Engineers are working their day in
and day out in repair of damaged bridges, construction of roads, clearance
of land slides and more over construction of shelters for those who
lost their abodes in 8th October earthquake.
Troops of Army engineers have been able to construct
77000 shelters using corrugated sheets in the earthquake hit areas
while another 11000 are under construction. 56000 shelters have been
constructed in the affected areas of Azad Kashmir and 21000 in NWFP.
Similarly locals have also constructed 40000 shelters on self help
basis and with the assistance of NGOs in these areas.
Pakistan Army Engineers have cleared almost 95% roads
in all the affected areas while 75% water supply schemes and 70% electricity
have also been restored in these areas which were badly damaged due
to earthquake.
Army Engineers also launched a Bailey Bridge on River
Kunhar. A 180 feet long and 13 feet wide bridge was launched in a
record time of 22 days. The bridge connects road Mansehra-Naran and
will also function as by pass route to Balakot city.
A host of medical teams comprising doctors and para
medics both from Pakistan and abroad are still there in the field
and providing medical treatment to the needy people. Foreign Medical
teams have established 44 field hospitals and besides that 45 medical
teams are also busy in the field to provide necessary medical treatment
to the locals of Azad Kashmir and NWFP in earthquake affected areas.
Beside provision of medical treatment mental health
relief units have also been established in Muzaffarbabd, Bagh and
Rawlakot. Army psychiatrists are making all out efforts to provide
necessary counseling and psychological care to the people who went
through some hard experience of their life during this earthquake
so as to help them to return back to normal life.
Similarly an extensive immunization campaign was also
launched by Army medical teams in collaboration with Ministry of Health
and WHO. In Forward Treatment Centre Muzaffarbad, Bagh, Rehra and
Combined Military Hospital Muzaffarbad 9672 persons were administered
TT vaccination, 138 ATG vaccination, 7269 measles vaccination,532
Hepatits A, 235 for meningitis.
Under EPI vaccination programme Army Medical Teams in
collaboration with WHO, Ministry of Health has administered vaccination
to 758370 people in Azad Kashmir. In NWFP more that 50000 were administered
TT, Measles, OP, DPT, VITA (Blue) and VIT (Red) vaccination under
EPI programme.
