Chinese delegations call on PM
ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 : Two Chinese trade delegations
of International Water and electric Corporation of China and China
Development Bank held separate meetings with Prime Minister Shaukat
Aziz at the Prime Minister’s House this afternoon and discussed
plans to invest in various sectors in Pakistan.
Jin Canning, President China National Chemical Engineering Corporation,
presented to the Prime Minister a cheque of one million dollars
for the rehabilitation of earthquake affected areas on behalf of
Mr. Chen Yuan, the governor of China Development Bank.
Jin Canning said his company is doing negotiations for joint business
with Pakistani companies in fertilizer business. He appreciated
Pakistan Government for its investment friendly policies, transparency
in privatization policy and conducive atmosphere for business and
trade activities.
Talking to the delegations the prime Minister noted that business
relations between Pakistan and China have increased. He asked Mr.
Jin Canning to look into the possibilities of setting up a refinery
in Pakistan for which many investors from Middle East have already
shown interest. The Prime Minister said there is a global shortage
of refining facilities. Pakistan, due to its strategic location
is the best satiable place for refining facility where oil from
Middle East and Gulf states can be refined for domestic consumption
and export, said the Prime Minister.
Talking to Dr. Lub Guojun, President International Water and electric
Corporation of China, the Prime Minister said that the need for
power and energy is increasing as economic activity is picking up.
He said that the Government would welcome the International Water
Electric Corporation of China to invest in this area, which offer
good returns.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is an investor friendly country
and the Government believes in providing a level playing field to
all investors local and foreign, “Transparency and efficiency
are the hallmarks of our policies particularly in the economic field”,
he observed.
The President of the International Water and Electric Corporation
of China informed the Prime Minister that their company is currently
associated with construction of 50MW Wind Park in Gharo near Karachi
and Mangla Dam raising project. He said that the Corporation is
exploring the possibilities of more joint ventures with the Pakistani
companies as the business climate is very conducive in the country.
