Karachi: Heavy vehicles should pass through
Northern Bypass: SC
KARACHI:
The Supreme Court of Pakistan Monday ordered that Karachi Port Trust
(KPT) should issue exit and entry passes to loading and unloading
vehicles in the time between 11:00 in night and 6:00 in the morning.
The two-member bench of the Supreme Court Karachi Registry
comprises of Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi
was hearing the suo moto case on traffic jams in Karachi.
The bench directed KPT authorities to fix a time of
loading and unloading at the port so as entry of the heavy vehicles
in the metropolis can be stopped.
DIG Traffic Karachi Wajid Durrani, DCO Javed Hanif and
Secretary Transport Rasool Bux Phulpoto appeared before the court
today. The officials submitted minutes of the meeting held under the
supervision of provincial chief secretary, in the court.
The court ordered ban on the entry of heavy vehicles
in the city except through the Northern Bypass.
The learned bench also ordered that COs of all cantonment
boards, Civil Aviation, Port Qasim Authority, Railways and representatives
of SITE should also be taken along for solution of traffic problems
of the city.
The report about further steps should be submitted
in the court on September 03, the court ordered.
