Only received notice, not charged with contempt
of court: Sher Afgan
ISLAMABAD:
Federal minister for parliamentary affairs Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi said
that he has received only the notice but has not been charged with
the contempt of the court.
Talking with Arshad Waheed Chaudhry of Geo News in Islamabad,
Dr. Sher Afgan told that it was questioned in the notice that why
not he be charged with the contempt of the court.
He said that he is considering to submit to the Supreme
Court a reply to the notice.
In reply to a question, he said that the Supreme Court
can take a suo moto action only in special cases and not in each and
every case. These include the matter of the contempt of the court
or non-compliance of the fundamental human rights.
On a question by Geo News, he said that he does
not know about bringing the constitutional amendments for reducing
the Supreme Court’s suo moto powers.
