Pakistan needs no foreign aid to tackle terrorists:

ISLAMABAD:
President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Thursday attended a dinner hosted
by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in his honour at the Prime Minister
house. PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Secretary-General Mushahid
Hussain Syed, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and cabinet
members and a large number of parliamentarians attended the dinner.
The president and the prime minister also had an informal interaction
about issues of national importance.
President Musharraf expressed satisfaction over the
overall performance of the government and said that visionary leadership,
good governance and unity of command are critical for ensuring a bright
future for democracy in Pakistan.
He asked the cabinet members to work with a team spirit
and focus on national interest. He also offered his guidance as and
when it is required and said that it was the hallmark of the present
government to keep the national interests always supreme.
He said every effort would be made to ensure that the
next general election is held in a free, fair and transparent manner
and asked the parliamentarians to start making contacts with the voters
in their electioneering campaigns in their respective areas.
When asked about the statements made by some US officials
of targeting terrorist hideouts in tribal areas, the president said
the Pakistan army was fully capable to tackle the terrorists and did
not require any foreign assistance in this regard.
Earlier, addressing the gathering the prime minister
said that the PML and coalition partners are working for the progress
of Pakistan and will fully support the president’s re-election
from current assemblies. The meeting discussed the overall political
situation, the impact of recent floods as well as other current issues.
