Aneesa appreciates plan of PBC of introducing 47 FM stations
ISLAMABAD, April 01 : Radio Pakistan is to set up 47
FM Stations in the far flung areas to extend radio signals to hundred
percent population of the country.
This information was given to the Minister of State
for Information and Broadcasting Ms Aneesa Zaib Tahirkhaili during
a briefing at Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation in Islamabad on Friday.
Six of these stations will start functioning at Gawadar,
Mithi , Bannu, Kohat, Mianwali and Sargodha by the end of June this
year.
The whole project will be completed within next three
years at a cost of over 475 million rupees.
The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting
appreciated the plan of Radio Pakistan to air its transmission in
every part of the country. She said, “we must get to the people
at the grass route level. There is need for the strong network of
radio, specially FM Transmitters as radio is the strongest and cheapest
source of Information and Entertainment to the masses.”
She said radio should present appropriate inter-active
programmes with unique ideas so as to change for a conducive environment
for the implementation of major policies and programmes of the government.
She was of the view that FM Radio Stations are the future
requirements of the country and their networking would give an edit
advantage to PBC in putting on Air news and other important informative
programmes.
She also emphasised the need for acquisition of
Short Wave Transmitters by the PBC to reach to our neighbouring countries.
Earlier, the Director General PBC Mr. Tarique Imam gave a detailed
briefing on revamping of different programmes catering almost all
sections of the society. He said, these include religious programmes
as well as targetted programmes for women, youth and senior citizens.
